$19.5 billion was paid to physicians through the provincial public health system in 2024/25. Physician billing is one of the largest and most complex areas of public spending in any province’s health system—making it a priority for audit. The Office of the Auditor General of Ontario tabled this critical audit in December 2025, garnering significant media attention. Join us as Thursday, May 21 at 2:00 pm ET as Ontario Auditor General Shelley Spence and Audit Director Gigi Yip share key findings from the audit. 

SPEAKERS

Shelley Spence was appointed Auditor General of Ontario in January 2024 for a 10-year term. A Chartered Professional Accountant with more than 30 years of experience, she has held senior roles in audit, oversight, and governance across the public sector. Prior to her appointment, she was a partner at Deloitte, leading work in the government and public service assurance practice, and earlier ran her own accounting firm for two decades. 

 

 

Gigi Yip is an Audit Director at the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario and a Chartered Professional Accountant. She has extensive experience leading performance audits across a range of government programs.
